Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Helicopter Licence - Helicopter) AVI50322 - 105 Hour / Full Time
The elements of this course have been put together to make you as ‘job ready’ as possible as you embark on your aviation career after training. This combination is not offered anywhere else in Australia.
Under the requirements of the CASA 105 hour CPL(H) non-integrated course a maximum of two aircraft types are allowed.
You will be flying the most modern piston training helicopter in the world - the Cabri G2 - for the bulk of the course. Unlike the older Robinson R22, the Cabri has been designed from the ground up as a modern training platform and includes features normally only found in much larger and more expensive helicopters such as:
- fenestron tail rotor,
- high inertia rotor system,
- electronic engine management display,
- solid-state electronic ignition system,
- automatic carburetor heating,
- crash-resistant fuel tank
- cargo hook, and
- crash absorbing seat stroking design.
Towards the end of your training you will transition into the larger 4 seat Robinson R44 type for your last 24 hours. There are more R44 helicopters in the world than any other type and it is highly likely that your first job after graduation will involve flying this type.
For that reason we believe it is important that you get experience on the R44 during your training to ensure that you are as competitive as possible in the job market.
Aeropower is also the first helicopter training school in Australia to offer students the incredible benefit of a Virtual Reality flight simulation trainer. This state-of-the-art system uses equipment on-par with that used by the US Air Force [Article] and the Australian Royal Navy in training their pilots. The physical helicopter controls paired with the Vive Pro VR headset, professional level flight simulation software and our in-house developed aerial imagery of SE QLD will provide you with an incredible immersive experience to compliment your real world flying.
Our navigation training phase differs from the traditional "fly to A, B and C" by incorporating scenario based routes drawing on real world charter operations. One day you might be picking up a TV show host to meet their film crew on location and the next delivering crocodile eggs from Australia Zoo to an awaiting jet at Sunshine Coast airport. This gets you thinking about the operational aspects and considerations while building pilot-in-command decision making skills. Exposure to platform trolley landings and drum refueling procedures further ready you for tasks expected in many first employment situations.

- CPL(H) Theory Classroom Instruction
